The first shop was originally known as F.W. Evans Cycles and was located on Kennington Road in south east London. Trading from this site for thirty years F.W Evans Cycles built up a strong reputation as a quality cycle shop and in particular building its own frames and bikes. In 1925 the company was presented with a silver plaque by the Cyclists Touring Club (The CTC) for ‘The greatest improvement in cycle design, construction or equipment during the year 1925’. The award was given for design and low cost production of a rear wheel dropout.

  I suffered a puncture on my way to work on Sat am and needed an emergency repair while I was at work. Blackfriars shop staff couldn't have been more helpful, and I received an email within an hour confirming repair done. When I picked up my bike later, I found they had also fixed a problem with the steering column and repaired my bell, without being asked and at no cost. It's not often you get that sort of service - much appreciated.

  I have now been to Evans four times over the last week to buy a bike and the equipment and riding gear I needed. It's my first bike for years. The staff were nothing other than understanding and helpful - even recommending a cheaper (higher spec previous year's model) alternative to the bike I was after. I am not tempted to try the internet or any other retail outlet...
