The first shop was originally known as F.W. Evans Cycles and was located on Kennington Road in south east London. Trading from this site for thirty years F.W Evans Cycles built up a strong reputation as a quality cycle shop and in particular building its own frames and bikes. In 1925 the company was presented with a silver plaque by the Cyclists Touring Club (The CTC) for ‘The greatest improvement in cycle design, construction or equipment during the year 1925’. The award was given for design and low cost production of a rear wheel dropout.
A random selection of reviews taken about this merchant. PLEASE NOTE: These are invidual opinions, and not our own experiences.
I went to the Evans in Waterloo yesterday as my brakes weren't working very well.
I entered the shop and was totally ignored by staff, even though there was nobody else in the shop. Eventually I got the attention of a staff member. He then preceded to look at my brakes, and claimed that to get the problem solved I had to bring the bike in on Tuesday as there was no time slots available before that. I was quoted about £17 for the cost of getting the brakes repaired.
I didn't want to pay £17 as my bike is quite old and was only £70 brand new.
I decided to take it to Cycle Surgery in Holborn instead, and the guy there fixed it in about 1 minute, at absolutely no cost.
My conclusion is that you shouldn't shop at Evans. They will only treat you fairly if you have already bought one of their vastly overpriced bikes
This is based on my experience in the Canary Wharf shop. Poorly staffed but also disorganized - not enough staff, but several staff would service a single customer while others wait - agree with other reviews here that you need to wait tons - especially billing/invoicing takes surprisingly long. Attendants did not even try to show me around bikes and options - offered a single generic option. I was told they will call me once it arrives so I can pick it up. I never got a call. I tried calling..
