The first shop was originally known as F.W. Evans Cycles and was located on Kennington Road in south east London. Trading from this site for thirty years F.W Evans Cycles built up a strong reputation as a quality cycle shop and in particular building its own frames and bikes. In 1925 the company was presented with a silver plaque by the Cyclists Touring Club (The CTC) for ‘The greatest improvement in cycle design, construction or equipment during the year 1925’. The award was given for design and low cost production of a rear wheel dropout.
A random selection of reviews taken about this merchant. PLEASE NOTE: These are invidual opinions, and not our own experiences.
I think I should expect a high quality of service from a store that charges a premium on it's service. I booked my bike in for a stage 2 service and said to them that a few bits might need replacing. All good. Was rung later in the day by a mechanic who assumed far too much knowledge on my part, so had to ask him to dumb it down a bit. Anyway, got there in the end and still, all good.
Was rung again to say that they were having a bit of trouble and needed a special tool to get something off and that it would be delayed by a day, again, no real problem.
Then, nothing. No call to say wether or not it was ready. When I did ring, they could not locate the receipt, and relied on me to give them the necessary information to locate the bike. When I asked what had been done, only a stage 1 was done, to which I asked why. All I got was that it was cheaper, hardly the point. What really nerked me was that the member of staff I spoke to actually said that I should know more than he about what had been done! Red rag to a bull! So in conclusion. I managed to get some work on my bike done, It wasn't what I had asked for, but was at least cheaper. It was late and had to suffer the complete incompetance of the staff. In the end I really don't have any degree of confidence in the service and the work that has been done
Never used Evans cycles before and decided to give them a try as the reviews were quite good.
I went to get a basic pair of mudguards and to have my brakes fixed. My bike was a pretty basic mountain bike (bought elsewhere) and I had problems with the front brake pads - which was rubbing against the disc brake.
Paid for the mudguards and for servicing of the brakes. 20 minutes later, the mudguards were fitted, but the front brakes were still rubbing (a bit less than when i first brought the bike in)! The guy that did the repair explained that he did his best, and with cheap bikes, there isn't much to be done. If I was told this earlier, i would just have gone to another shop which fixed the brakes on my friend's bike just fine. Both bikes were the same model and bought from the same online retailer. The only reason I went to Evans instead of the other shop was because the other shop was at the other end of town and Evans was closest to my home. Wasn't very impressed with the repair but paid the £11.50 they asked for. Should have just told me they can't fix it and I would have gone to the shop that can.
On my way home, the front mudguard fell off whilst I was cycling!!!! Had obviously not been fitted properly in the shop. Could not reattach it securely and would have to go back to the shop tomorrow. Very annoyed as its a complete waste of my time and money.
